We are continuing our journey back to the US from Grenada and currently on day 6 of the passage. Today we have both sails out (reef and main), traveling at 5.4 knots and the seas are way better than they were during the first 3 days. Currently looking at 3ft waves. Other boats are getting closer to us! Maybe we will get close enough to be able to radio. That would be really fun for the night shifts!
Day 7 we sailed around Crooked Island and now the plan is to spend a night or 2 in Long Island, Bahamas while we wait for some weather to pass. We will then have 2 days to cross the gulf stream. Jeremiah had yet another problem to solve but thankfully this one isn’t as big of an issue. During one of the big swells we hit, our silverware drawer came flying out! I think it’s because the drawer is so heavy that it drops down and can unlock itself. He thinks we will need a new rail or two but at least it’s fixed for now!
For Rhys, we obviously can’t work on as much structured schoolwork as we would like while actively sailing, so he’s been playing some learning games on the iPAD. The great thing about homeschooling is that we can complete more lessons when it’s more convenient or when Rhys is getting the hang of something really quickly, and also take more time on other things if necessary. However, I just got done telling him that once we are stopped we will be doing more school work and he told me that he’s done with schoolwork forever haha! This kid cracks me up.
On day 10 I decided to reconnect with nature! This might have been my favorite part of the trip. It was getting really hot on the deck so I decided to hop down to the sugar stoop in nothing but my bikini, PFD and tether ;). What an amazing way to cool down. It was so exhilarating to be so close to the water while under sail-- you could feel the waves splashing up which helped me to cool down as well. Sailing is so freeing-- I love how I can sit here, feel the waves coming up and not worry about what anyone else is thinking about me!
I had so much fun that the next day I took Rhys down to the sugar stoop with me. We have never let him do this before, but he is getting bigger now and we strapped him up with the tether. I also had a death grip on him haha. He had so much fun, and I might have enjoyed watching how excited he got more than actually enjoying it myself. It was an amazing way to cool off and have some fun!
P.S. We hope you have a wonderful Father's Day!
